Here are a few tips on getting started
There are more than 300 ski resorts in most regions of the U.S. and many are relatively close to metropolitan areas. Most offer "turnkey" learn to ski or sbowboard programs that generally include a lift ticket, lesson and rental equipment. When starting out, take a beginner lesson from a professional instructor located at the resort's ski and snowboard school. At many areas, the PSIA-AASI·is there to help you. That stands for Professional Ski Instructors of America- American Association of Snowboard Instructors.
TALK TO FRIENDS
Current skiers and snowboarders can be a great source of information. Skiing and snowboarding are social sports and great ways to meet interesting people. Local clubs (see below) are another option. Rely on a trained and experienced pro for lessons though.
SKI AND SNOWBOARD SHOPS WHERE YOU LIVE
Shops sell·equipment and clothing for skiing and·snowboarding and they also·rent equipment. They·employ trained personnel who can help guide you through your first steps. These·professionals·can recommend learning programs and·help you determine what to purchase when the time is right. At least visit a local shop to find out how to dress for outdoor activity. Many shops also offer bus trips to a local resort. Trip leaders are another source for information.·
GOOGLE LOCAL CLUBS
Clubs tend to be ski oriented. Generally they are located in large metropolitan areas, colleges and high schools. Clubs primarily are run by volunteers who love snow sports. Clubs run trips to various locations - some local and some more destination oriented. The National Ski Club Federation is an organized group of clubs and councils throughout the U.S.
SKI AND SNOWBOARD MAGAZINES/WEB SITES
Industry media is slanted more toward experienced participants. They also include a lot of practical information and some incredible photography. Some examples are Ski, Skiing, Powder,· Mountain, Outside, Peaks, Transworld Snowboarding, Skier News, and OnTheSnow.com.·hese media sources·will get you excited about·being outside on the snow. Liftopia·is a good source for lift tickets. Remember, humans were never meant to hibernate!·
